GreenSugar

PRESS

Played for a GroundUP event on March 27, 2009 @ the Abbey

“If you haven’t seen this band live, then you haven’t fully experienced a brand of rock and blues mixed together like that of Greensugar.” With dueling percussionists, great guitar play and smooth vocals, Greensugar brings blues and rock to a whole new plateau. Greensugar has it all, a very gracious-powerful lead singer, a very smooth bassist and 2-great guitar players, the attention on detail is shown in their experience together. But then lies the under card, the hidden gem, Greensugar brings all the funk with baselines set up by not one, but two drummers. To understand the art behind having two drummers is very complicated, as most music lovers know, the drummer lays down the rhythm and pace, so imagine having two drummers playing simultaneously. Not only do the come flawlessly, but they dominate the show sometimes going back and forth. All around, Greensugar has quickly risen on my list of bands to see live in 2009; with an explosive live show and great blues style of rock.

FEARLESS RADIO REVIEW

    Fearless Radio
Hey, Fearless fans! The most exciting annual music event returned to Chicago! Chicago’s MOB Fest is a major event in which corporate recording labels come out to hear a wide variety of talented independent musical artists. For three nights, wild fans watch the best-of-the-best play for the chance to be recognized by important figures in the music industry. Mob Fest also includes a panel discussion to assist new bands in learning more about the workings of the music business. In its 12th year, this local music event has grown in popularity. This year, I was lucky to cover all of the spectacular music and fun at the Elbo Room. For more information about MOB Fest, visit this site
    www.myspace.com/mobfest or www.chicagomobfest.com .

Though it was their first time performing at MOB Fest, Green Sugar performed like seasoned pros! Rousing guitar riffs and blues music breathed life back into the crowd. The blues melodies blended beautifully with Green Sugar’s rock sound. Excitement was felt while performing a couple of Willie Dixon and Albert King classics. During the instrumentals, Green Sugar impressed the crowd with wild guitar riffs and funky rhythms. For the show the band performed songs like Trouble and Timeless. For me, this band preformed the best set for the first night of MOB Fest. I encourage everyone to see Green Sugar on July 25 at the Double Door alongside Hemi and Cealed Kasket. ILLINOIS ENTERTAINER

Green Sugar carries the torch for boogie-shaking, foot-stomping rock in the blues tradition of The Black Crowes on its three-track demo. By way of Southern California, the band has honed its gritty, tight sound on rockers “Trouble” and “Simple Touch.” Founder and native Chicagoan Parker Dodson leads the trio with his simple yet warm 1970s-style crooning.

PLAY PHILLY MUSIC REVIEW

“Genesis is a good time throwback to classic ’70s guitar rock…Singer/guitarist Parker Dodson wears his heart on his sleeve as he belts out tales of ale-soaked roadhouses and love gone awry.” —Anthony Layser, Play Philly music writer

RED EYE CHICAGO

“The high energy members of GreenSugar are easy, crowd-pleasing rockers whose music is destined to fill the halls of rock and roll for years to come.”
